I valued my time at Mizzou and earned professional experience in several different settings, which you can learn more about by clicking the link above. Courses taken at Mizzou include:
- History of American Journalism - This upper level history course explained the birth of American journalism and instilled in me just how important a free press is to a functioning democracy.
- Online Journalism - I worked for MyMissourian.com in this course. MyMissourian is a social media and citizen journalism site in mid-Missouri. My knowledge of smartphone applications and how they relate to journalism, as well as SEO increased greatly in this course.
- Advanced Global Converged News - I worked at Newsy.com during this course. Newsy is an Internet video news startup that focuses on monitoring and synthesizing the world's events by using multiple sources.
- Fundamentals of Radio, Television and Photojournalism - This was my first convergence course and I learned the basics behind reporting across various platforms. I had my first experiences shooting and editing video, taking photographs and producing NPR style radio stories in this class.
- Convergence Reporting - I reported for KOMU-TV, KBIA-FM, the Columbia Missourian and KMOV.com in this intense course. I covered everything from voting rights of the homeless, to a professor who spent every dime of her salary to adopt former, often abused, racehorses.
- Convergence Editing and Producing - I edited groups of convergence reporting students in this course. I also covered Missouri Tigers athletics for KBIA-FM and KMOV.com.
- Convergence Capstone - My final journalism course. My group developed a communications plan for Team Missouri as they prepared for the 2011 Solar Decathlon.
